Football Friday

Happy Friday to one and all.  The Terps are off this Saturday Instead of looking forward to the football game tomorrow, I am still looking back at Terps trip to WVU.

By the way, remember to check out the radio show TerpTalk tomorrow (Saturday) as I will be on with Mr. TerpTalk Bruce Posner.  You can listen on 1580am in the DC market or over the internet at www.terptalk.com.  The show is at 8 in the morning.

In the last post, I wrote that there is something that the Terps could have done when faced with the fastest and best receivers in the country.  So I am going to ask my alter ego, Wayne “the fan” to take a shot at answering how can we cover a guy as good as Tavon Austin.

I believe that Maryland has one athlete that can cover a Tavon Austin.  The only player the Terps have that has the speed and moves to cover Austin is Stefon Diggs.  Hey, I know Diggs is a wide receiver for Maryland and only a freshmen.

Here is my point, Diggs played defensive back for Good Counsel.  If I recall he was pretty good.  If the Terps are serious about giving opposing teams a look that they did not expect, having Diggs line up across from Austin and chase him all over the field is that look.

And another thing.  Although Diggs caught 3 passes and two went for touchdowns, why didn’t he get the ball more?  There were quite a few offensive plays that the Terps went heavy jumbo, that is 3 tight ends.  One of the tight ends, Devonte Campbell was split out as a wide receiver.  Diggs was not even on the field.

So if you are going to use Diggs once in a while as a receiver and as a kick returner, what is wrong with using him to help a defense that can not keep up with Tavon Austin?

Thanks for reading the Wayne “the fan” rant of the day.

The best call of the game in the play-by-play is (sorry to say) the Hills fumble that went for a WVU touchdown.  Here is a clip of that call –  Further down the page is the WVU highlights package from the last week.
