Harrison Twins and the Terps

How the Harrison Twins Movie works in my Mind
At 5p in a high school gym in Texas the movie will end.  It really should come to a conclusion as the Harrison twins walk to the stage.  The film fades to black in my version of the story.  As you leave the theater, it strikes you that the point of the film was that no matter which school the highly coveted basketball recruits choose, the Maryland Terrapins are back.
Sure, I think that it is important that Maryland is the choice.  It would put the Terps in the conversation for the 2014 National Championship.  Tickets to Comcast Center would, again, be a sought after prize.  In the few remaining hours before we know what the #1 and #4 ranked boys high school basketball players in America will do, we have a chance to dream.  To make our own movie in our head.
So back to my movie.  I decided that the movie should end before we know who the kids will chose because it is more important in the overall scheme of the college basketball world that Maryland is in the discussion than it is whether the Harrison kids end up as Terps.  Why? you may ask – Good question.  Mark Turgeon and the the coaching staff have proven that the Terps are legitimate in the recruiting game.  For all the reasons that we already know – great building, great school, DC/Balt area, ACC and rich tradition.  Now we have a staff that burns to go out and sell that.
Maryland is in the discussion for top 10 high school basketball players.  We will now get our share.  It is a huge step to our next run at the National Championship.
Other Big Recruiting Chases in Terps History
Here are a few of the biggest, but the media attention on this one is much larger
Moses Malone – He was the one that got away for Lefty.  Instead of choosing Maryland, Moses goes pro to the ABA.
Tom McMillen – Maryland battled UNC for this one all the way to enrollment day.
Albert King – A huge get for Lefty and the Terps
Lance Stephenson – Born Ready was a top 2 national player. He had a stormy past and was (according to sources) finally ready become a Terp.  He became a Comcast faithful darling and must have recruit.  In the end, Maryland/Gary said “no thanks” and Lance goes to Cincinnati for one year and is now in the NBA.

  1. Agreed. Do they stay in the Garden of Turgeon, or eat the Snakes apple? Sorry for the cult reference.
