Monday Morning Terp – Post FSU hangover

I was texting with my friend Bucky and he brought up an interesting point, what Maryland football player would start for Florida State?  Our consensus was one, Stefon Diggs.

Does that excuse a 63-0 loss at Florida State, no it does not.  No one ever said with a straight face, “Give Randy Edsall two weeks to prepare for an opponent and watch out.”  Now 1-25 against raked competition, you have to find a way for your team to give a better accounting of itself.

On the other hand, Maryland, in my opinion, is better than the team showed on Saturday.  All the out of sync offense and the lost coverage defenses were not the team that I saw the last 4 weeks.  Were they intimidated? Were the Terps not ready for a game that they had 14 days to study up for?  Who knows, but it seemed evident early on that it was not going to be a good day for Maryland.

On the message boards fans wrote things like, “the team quit”, “the coaches stink” and other closer to unprintable comments.  Frustration that Maryland has a legit shot to beat FSU and make some real national noise were unfounded.  I was not only drinking the Kool Aid, I was helping to serve it up.

On the two Saturday shows (TerpTalk and the Sports Maven) I was talking up the Maryland speed, that Stewart and Locksley would find a way.  That the Terps had a chance.  I was wrong.

The Terps are faster than in recent years.  The recruiting seems to be picking up.  Stew and Locks have been making us better.  In the end, the Terps did not have a chance.

I go back to Bucky’s question – who for Maryland would start for FSU?  I will add, who for the Terps would start for Clemson?  We are way ahead of ourselves (or more directly, I am way ahead of myself) if we think the Terps are top 15 material.

I will write more on where we go from here.  The important point to make, all dreaming aside, is that the mission this year is to win 6 games and get to a bowl.  We can still do that, and on that point I am not way ahead of myself.

Go Terps!  Beat UVA.

  1. Wayne it was one of the worst Terp performances I can remember. That being said there is nothing to do but get ready for the next game. This will give us a good oppurtunity to see what we are made of. Come out Saturday against Virginia play hard on every snap and let's see what happens. I'll be there supporting my team and I know alot of real Terps will be to.
