On Basketball – 3.11.2009

Zoowee momma! Georgetown lost to St Johns again. From top 10 to out of the Big East tournament. What a precipitous fall from grace. No NCAA tournament for the Hoyas. Lost to St Johns twice in a week.

On the plus side of the roundball world, Mount Saint Marys (of MD) visits Robert Morris (PA) tonight for a trip to the NCAA tourney.

When you read in the newspaper that VCU (Virginia Commonwealth) is a “local” team, how is Mt St Marys not a DC area team? VCU is based in Richmond, VA. Anyhow, Michael Weiss who follows the team for our blog will have a story on tonight’s game.

Really Local Basketball

For AU (American University of DC) hosting Holy Cross on Friday @ 4:45p for a trip to the NCAA tournament, we will have in-house coverage.

Thanks to the AU ticket office, I will be heading over to Bender Arena along with my trusty squad of Jordan and Mason. This game is sold out and the Crusaders visiting the Eagles should be a barn-burner.

Back to Georgetown – What happened to the Hoyas? Did John Thompson III (JT3) lose the team? They certainly stopped playing for him. So where is the hue and outcry that Georgetown became the basketball equivalent of the US economy? (i.e. complete tank job over the last few months. GT loses 11 of last 15)

This is a team that had one of the top recruits (Greg Monroe, center) and another NBA first round pick. The team chemistry must have been terrible. Here is a real story to pursue for the Washington Post.
