On the Record for the NFL

Quick picks for Sunday’s Contests

With the last word on the Ravens being that two defensive starters are out, we have to go with the Steelers in a straight up pick. Six points is a lot if you are going with the spread. With the spread figured in, I would take Baltimore.

In addition, I have many friends and two children rooting for the Ravens tomorrow night.

For the Cardinals (I still call them St. Louis half the time) hosting the Eagles, I am going with the Cards. December 28, 1947 the Cardinals beat the Eagles 28-21 for the NFL Championship. The next year, the Eagles returned the favor with a 7-0 victory for the Championship. So there is some history here, just 60 years ago. I think that was the Truman administration.

With the line at 3 1/2, I would still take the points and go with the Cards. I think that both Westbrook (Eagles) and Warner (Cards, Giants, Rams) both could be Hall of Fame candidates. What a story it would be for Warner to get back to the Super Bowl. He was last there in 2000 (vs Titans, Georgia Dome, Super Bowl 34) and he was the MVP. A return trip would border on the miraculous.
