Eagle Bank Bowl 2009

Mason really wanted to go to the Eagle Bank Bowl.  I figured that it could be a good idea.  When your 8  year old is that b ig of a football fan, one has to take pride in that.

We missed last year’s inaugural Eagle Bank Bowl.  That was Navy and Wake.  This year’s game was UCLA v Temple.

I looked online for tickets, but just like last year the tickets were expensive.  I asked Mason and Jordan again if they were sure that they wanted to go.  Both said “Yes”.

I already planned to take the day off and stay with the “littles”.  This particular Tuesday in December (29th) proved to be a cold one.  Temperatures were not to get out of the twenties and a cruel wind made it feel like 15 degrees at the most.

I had some work to do in the morning that stretched into the early afternoon.  I asked them again if they wanted to go to the game.  Mason said “Yes”, Jordan said “No”.

I countered with leaving early and going to the museums and maybe just going to RFK Stadium and see what was going on.  Both said “No”.  Then I had Mason put his coat on go stand outside for 5 minutes and see how cold it was.  He came back in and said that “it was really cold and I still want to go”.

So like the silly Daddy that I am, I said “OK”.  Although we were a little late in leaving, we went to the Metro and began the long ride from Shady Grove to Stadium/Armory. The kids still love the Metro trains.  We got to the stadium station and then followed the sparse crowd around to the front of the Armory.

It was there that we were able to purchase one ticket for $10 and could not find anymore for sale for a reasonable price.  The littles were discouraged, I figured that there were more tix for sale near the front of the stadium.

Off we went to RFK and there we were given four tickets by some UCLA folks who had too many tickets.  So we got to go to the game for $10 plus Metro fare.

It was cold and windy and RFK is really getting old.  Mason loves stadiums, so seeing RFK configured as a football stadium really meant something to him (and to me).  Jordan was just freezing.  Mason likes UCLA because their mascot is a bear and they look really cool on TV.

So the end of the story is that we stayed until halftime, were happy we went and very happy to get into the subway station where it was warm.
