Reaction to the B1G

I can not, for the moment, get past the change to the B1G Ten.  I thought I was over it yesterday.

At the end of the day I was drained.  It is much more of an emotional issue than I thought it would be, even for me.

Anyone who reads my columns or listens to the Show knows that I am all the way in the tank for Maryland.  It is my far and away #1 hobby (or obsession).

By the way, I am for the move.

I was surprised that sportswriters who (I thought) knew the situation at Maryland came out in the Washington Post as so small minded and petty.  I know from reading that Mike Wise is not a fan of the Terps.  I thought that Tracee Hamilton came of as shrill as well.

I am further surprised and saddened that so many great Terps had lost touch with the University and what the situation is on the ground.  Both with finances and the way the ACC is setup now and going forward.  Even the great Lefty Drisell.

The double standard of the ACC changing because money and global reach was so important even if it sort of screwed Maryland in the scheduling was OK.  If Maryland uses the same logic to get a better deal for itself and that is viewed as wrong.

It seems to me that the ACC was serving its core constituency in the Carolina region.  Maryland is serving its core in the DC metro area.  We have aligned with schools that are actually much more like us in structure than was true in the ACC.

In a very real sense, we are a better fit in the B1G then we were with our former partners.

If tradition was such a huge money maker,  we would be rich and we never would have expanded the ACC beyond 8 or 9 teams. We had tradition and killed it on the alter of $.
