Signing Day is the 6th for Football

I am excited as the Terps look to land a top 40 nationally ranked  class of high school seniors to the football team.  It must be hard to recruit coming off of a 2 win season and then a 4 win campaign.  Tomorrow a group of lineman, wide receivers, linebackers and a quarterback will sign up for four years of football as Terps.

What happens is that, as designated by the NCAA, February 6th is the first day that a high school senior can make a binding commitment to a college program.  One could commit to a school later than Feb. 6th, just not before.  At 8:30AM Eastern time, you can fax in your signed letter of commitment (actually LOI or The National Letter of Intent (NLI) is a document used to indicate a student athlete’s commitment to participating National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) blah blah…).

You can’t just call, you have to send in the signed letter because it is a legally binding deal.  If
you change your mind, even before you go to school, in order to go play at another college,
you would need to get your LOI waived or released by your original college.

Some of the more in demand future football stars drag out the selection process to the very last minute.  It makes for great drama.  Maryland has a few of these for tomorrow.

One is a big-time talent is Taivon Jacobs, a wide receiver from the DC area.  He is set to announce at 11:30 AM.  This recruiting battle is between Ohio State and the Terps.

Another is Yannick Ngakoue, a linebacker from Friendship Christian Academy in DC.  This is a fight to the wire between Florida State, Maryland and South Carolina.

Speaking of football, the support group for Maryland Football is the Maryland Gridiron Network.  If you are a Terps fan, this is something that you should look into –
