Monday Morning Terp – Florida State Week

The Terps open the week as #25 in one poll and #29 in the other.  That is good enough to call it a Top 25 match-up as Maryland goes to Florida State for a noon kickoff on ESPN.

As reader Rich Keller wrote – So if my math is correct…MD crushed WVU…WVU beats #11 Ok St….that should mean that MD is better than OK State and should be ranked # 10.

OK to use in your BLOG.

Well, the Terps are not top 10, but it is a big game. Maybe more for Maryland than Florida State, but FSU has not played top competition either.  Beating Pitt, Nevada, Bethune Cookman and Boston College to get a 4-0 record.

It is big for Maryland because almost no one is taking the Terps seriously.  I think it is the Terps time and Saturday’s game could be the upset Maryland nation is looking for.

FSU’s quarterback James Winston is heralded as a Heisman trophy candidate.  The redshirt freshman has great numbers, but against suspect defenses.  For Winston, Saturday’s game against Maryland is his first exposure to a reasonably good defense.

The truth of the matter is, we don’t know how good Maryland really is.  From watching football for a long time, I think the Terps are 8-4 or better good.  The question now is, are the Terps 10-2 good (or even better than that?).

Maryland opens as a 17 point road underdog.

This is a big week covering the team sports at Maryland.  With tomorrow’s football press event.  Soccer hosting Tulsa and ticket reservation day for those heading to Cole Field House to catch the formerly named Midnight Madness on October 18th.

Catch TerpTalk on 1300AM in Baltimore on Wednesday at 6p.

  1. Good job putting the opening line in. I may be having a positive influence on you after all. I can't believe this game was put on 6 day hold only to be scheduled for a noon kickoff. The key to this game (as usual) is no turnovers if C.J. can control the ball I like our chances not only in this game but for the whole season
