Terps Can’t Get it Done at Duke

When the Turtles shot out of the gate to start the second half, it looked like we had found the karma to make it a memorable night.  A quick 6 point lead had Rat Face calling a TO and screaming at his Dukies like he was channeling Gary Williams.

Sure the Terps stayed with the Dukies for the entire game.  Jordan Williams had another double – double of points and rebounds.  The game was fun.  But we did not win.

Losing at #1 Duke 71-64 was not a total downer.  It exposed Duke for being 100% an outside team and it exposed the Terps as only having an inside game.  Terps could have won the game.  The same story as the Pitt, Illinois and BC games.

I think that the team is getting better.  It would not surprise me if the Terps were 11-5 in the ACC.  There is talent on the court.  The guys are just not ready for prime time.  It also showed that the best the Terps have to offer is Jordan Williams, Dino Gregory and Cliff Tucker.

When Dino or Cliff are your second best players, there is an issue.  Stogs was not on last night.  Bowie disappeared.  Pe’Shon was OK.  Padgett looked very nervous.  Hawk looked like he belonged on the court.  Weijs played one minute.  Mosley was a defensive stopper but just can’s shoot.

My prognosticator of note for last night was Mason.  As the game started to slip away in the last minutes, he asked,”Daddy can the Terps come back”?  I replied that 10 years ago we were up by 10 and lost in OT, so sure we could score 8 points in 54 seconds to get to OT.  Then we missed and Mason asked, “Daddy, can we turn out the lights?”
