What a solid game for the Terps on Saturday night. It was such a complete victory (does not matter over who) that some fans were complaining that is was boring. The defense was stellar and the offense still needs some work.
How much work does one need when you score 62 points? We can start and end with the quarterback position. Jamarr is a good running “college” qb. Danny O’Brien is an untested “pro-style” qb. Danny O can throw the ball, but that was against Morgan State. Until Danny O throws well against a division I opponent, the jury is still out on him.
The offensive line looks as good as it has in a long time. The skill positions appear to be really good. Even the kicking game looks to be top notch. If we can get settled down on the qb position, even if it means that they will share the job, we could be looking at an 8 win season.
The defense looks fast and hard hitting. The Navy game showed that we can play against a complex set and be effective. The Morgan State game showed the squad can be dominating.
WVU poses a different test. The hard to stop spread attack in a hostile environment. A top 25 test on the road. A win here and one could expect a vault in the polls from the current postion of 42.
A win also sets up a sellout for the FIU game on Sept 25th. You could see a win streak at least through the Duke game. A 5-0 start into the bye week and a visit to Clemson. One can hope.
To end on a bright note. Both VT and Penn State lost. Virginia Tech is only the second ranked team to ever (ever is a long time) lose to a Division II team. Penn State just got smothered at Alabama. Having VT and PSU lose is almost as good as a Terps win.
