“Winning solves everything.” How many times have you heard that old saw? It sure has seemed to work for the Capitals as they continue to sell-out Verizon Center and set record TV viewership records (for the Caps). For DC’s hockey franchise, winning has brought fans and national attention.
Having been a hockey fan for a long time, I welcome the new viewers and fans to, what I consider to be, the most exciting sport to watch in-person. When you add in that every game recently has been close to a Maryland – Duke basketball game atmosphere you really have something.
I think that the Terps could learn a thing or two about marketing and game atmosphere from what the Capitals have done. The party atmosphere outside the arena begs the question, who decided to build Comcast Center in the middle of no-where? That was true 1970’s thinking compared to put an arena in the same position as Cole Field House.
The pep bands outside on the concourse, the face painting and make your own sign tables are great. I really like what they have done with VW as a sponsor.
For those of you who are new to the sport, what do you think so far? For those that go to the games, do you think that the Terps could do some of what the Caps are doing?
