Do you see the red goal posts and crossbar behind Simeon Varlamov? I am surprised that the Capitals have not blasted the paint off the posts with their 100 MPH slapshots.
The DC newspaper, The Washington Post, should put advertisements on the goal posts. It would be great marketing. You can hear the radio voice of the Capitals, Steve Colby, “here comes Ovie into the zone, he blasts a shot from (boink, puck hitting crossbar clearly audible) just inside the blue line and it hits the post and goes out of play.
Hey, that is the third time this period that Alexander Ovechkin has hit the Washington Post! For all the news on the Capitals, read tomorrows Post sports section.”
There will not be much more hockey news in the WP if the Caps keep hitting the post in the series against King Henry and the Rangers. There are probably 20+ garage bands in upstate New York now called “King Henry and the Rangers”.
The Capitals are playing it too fine. They know Henry is hard to beat, so they go for the edges. It is quite remarkable that Semin, Ovie, Federov and company can propel a puck so hard and so accurately. Even the goal that Ovie scored, hit the crossbar on the way into the netting.
Semin, Ovechkin, et al are hitting the post darn near on purpose. They are just off by 1/4″. Maybe just an 1/8″. Shot after shot clangs off the iron and the Capitals could lose the series 4 games to 1. Flip that number around 1/4, and you get the real margin between winning a losing for the DC skaters.
I will out there with the Gang of Three (Jor, Mo and me) on Friday for what could be the end of the season for our Capitals. All we can say is, “Lets Go Caps!”
