Rob Moxley Returns to College Park
It was interesting for followers of the Maryland Terrapins Basketball family to see the former lead recruiter and top assistant Rob Moxley back on the Comcast Center floor.
Rob Moxley came to Maryland a few years ago from Charlotte (University of Charlotte 49ers) to help re-build the Terps basketball fortunes. He lasted two years before the call came from Moxley’s former boss Bobby Lutz, the head coach of the 49’ers. The offer was to return to Charlotte as the associate head coach, which is an upgrade. He is now the head coach in-waiting at Charlotte.
Since then, the Terps have played at Charlotte last January and today the 49’ers visited the Terps. Maryland has won both meetings.
As this soap opera unfolded, Maryland turned to Chuck Drisell. An old Terp and son of Coach Charles G. “Lefty” Drisell. Chuck was coaching in the Washington Catholic League at Paul VI in Norhtern Virginia. He was known as someone who knew everyone and was well liked.
For the Terrapin faithful, replacing Rob Moxley with Chuck Drisell had the right feel. So the door was open and another former Terp player was on the bench. Chuck has been the right hire for Maryland.
So as I watched Terp Head Coach Gary Williams head toward the Charlotte bench for the pre-game handshake with Bobby Lutz, I was looking for the moment when Gary crossed Moxley’s path. Then there it was, a quick hello and a handshake.
