Looking into the Bye Week

Tony Logan goes the distance for the Terps.  This score made it 14-9 as the Terps went on to win 21 – 16.  Thank to ESPN for the video.  (for those reading on facebook, please go to www.capitalsportsblog.com to see the video)

It will be the end of the month before the football Terrapins have another home game.  The 4 and 1 start to the season has folks counting the ways the team can get to 6 or 7 wins and become bowl eligible.  ESPN bowl projections have the Terps playing Air Force in the Independence Bowl.

If we could just schedule Army, we could be in contention for the Commanders Cup!

I went to the Independence Bowl with the Terps in 1990 and saw the 34 all tie with Louisiana Tech.  Shreveport, La is not exactly a top flight destination, but that was 20 years ago.

When your team is off for the week, you look around college football a little and see what is going on.  So with the Terps off this week, here is what I am seeing.

My cousin Marc must be unhappy as his Georgia Bulldogs are off to a terrible start.  He went to Colorado last weekend to see the ‘Dawgs.  They lost to the Buffs and are now 1 – 4 on the season.  Mark Richt was a star of the SEC a few years ago will now probably be un-employed at the end of the season.

Alabama looks fantastic.  I can’t see how they can make it through the SEC schedule without a loss.

Denard Robinson at Michigan looks like a faster version of Pat White (former qb of WVU).  Not only has Robinson seem to have saved the very unlikeable Rich Rod’s job in Ann Arbor, DRob seems to be leading the Heisman Trophy race.  Michigan does not play defense, so every game is 45 to 43 at the gun.  Great to watch.

Oregon might be as good as advertised.  Since they are Nike U, I am pre-disposed not to like them.  You know, I am an Under Armour guy.

ACC Notes – Va Tech is now the fashionable choice to make it to the ACC Championship.  Ga Tech is not nearly as good as last year.  UNC should fire Butch Davis now, before the NCAA gets too involved in an ugly grades and money scandal in Chapel Hill.
