Hoyas are in a Hole

When the heat was on Gary Williams, all one heard about was the Terp’s troubles. If you are looking for the real disappointment of the DC area, look no further than Georgetown. More diasappointing than the Redskins? Yes, or at least on the same level. More than the Nationals? The Nats just stink. Never was any hope. You wonder how long they will be in town.

Georgetown who was a world beater have fallen to 12th in the Big East. Ever since they went down to Duke and got killed, they have been on a long losing streak. The defense is not up to standard. The offense is typical Gtown horrible. The Hoyas could not put 8,000 into the MCI Center for a big Monday game against Louisville (nationally ranked #6). John Thompson III (JT3) should really be in trouble next year. Many of the starters are thinking about going pro, including fantastic freshman Greg Monroe.

JT3 has done all the things that Gary does not. He has former AAU coaches on the bench. He has the big name recruits. Chases recruits and uses the media. The result, a worse record than the Terps and out of the NCAA Tournament.

If you think that things are bad on the Hilltop (Gtown), then try life at Foggy Bottom where GW (George Washington) has had a horrible season. Karl Hobbs, the former Uconn assistant, has had his recruiting methods questioned.

Karl had put into practice methods he learned from the sleazeball Jim Calhoun (head coach at Uconn). Coach Hobbs had brought in many young men from sports high schools. The type that came under fire because the NCAA questioned whether they had any academic value. Karl is no longer allowed to recruit those kids for GW. Since then his record has gone into the toilet.

On the bright side, Jeff Jones has American looking at another NCAA berth for the Eagles. That should make Hilarie, Ira and cousin Richard quite pleased. Between those three AU grads, I don’t know if they have gone to more than a single basketball game.
