Disaster Strikes Ashburn- Three Redskins Out For Season

Three starting Redskins were announced to be out for the season earlier today. Top receiver Paul Richardson tore his AC joint in a surprise injury considering that he finished the Atlanta game yesterday. Top three right guard Brandon Scherff tore his pectoral muscle in what looked to be a very painful injury. Finally starting left guard Shawn Lauvao tore his ACL on the first drive of yesterday’s game.

Richardson’s injury does hurt a little, he is second on the team in receiving yard despite missing a game already. The presumed return of Jamison Crowder from his own injury, combined with the emergence of Maurice Harris should help offset the loss. In a vacuum Shawn Lauvao’s injury wouldn’t be that bad. He is considered an average guard on a good day and many fans wanted him benched last season. However with the onslaught of injuries to Trent Williams and Brandon Scherff this one is really bad. Speaking of really bad, Brandon Scherff is one of the worst possible injuries this team could’ve had.

Scherff is, without a doubt, one of the best, if not the best, player on the team. The Iowa native was all-rookie in 2015, and has made two consecutive pro bowls since. Without him, Williams (the other best player on the team) and Lauvao, the offensive line could very easily fall apart.

As the Redskins lose three starters, one must wonder if the already lagging offense can survive. Despite my reputation I am generally an optimist when it comes to the Burgundy and Gold, however even I feel a sense of dread with the rest of the season. This next game at Tampa now feels like a must win, we need some momentum against an inferior opponent going into the Texans game.
