Friday’s DC Sports Minute 1.15.2010

Terps are still in the hunt for a “big” recruit. That is a center or power forward. Greg Echenique selected Creighton as his landing spot as he has left Rutgers.

Terps still in the hunt for Eric McKnight. From what I have heard, Gary Williams has not been to see him play yet. Chuck Drisell and Keith Booth have seen him and are awaiting Gary’s analysis.

Terps go to BC on Saturday for a 4p tip-off. With BC on the road and Longwood and NC State at home, one would hope that the Terps can get three in a row. That would put them at 13 and 5.

Redskins

It looks like the team will have a new coaching staff as Joe Bugle and Greg Blatche are both gone.  I have to say that I liked having Bugle around as a link to the glory years.  I thought Blatche did a good job and seemed grounded and dependable from afar.

Welcome to Kyle Shanahan (coach’s son, formerly Texans OC) as the Offensive Coordinator and to Jim Haslett (former Head Coach of the Saints and Rams) as the Defensive Coordinator.

Wizards / Bullets

The season is going (gone?) down the tubes.  Gilbert has a felony charge against him.  Abe Pollin died.  What is going to happen next?  I think that the Bullets need a tougher than nails PF and a lock-down guard.  The rest of the parts, Caron Butler, Jamison, Foye, Blatche and Haywood are fairly talented.  They lack on court leadership and don’t play defense to the level they need to.

BTW, what happened to JaVale McGee and Dominic McGuire?  Two young guys who are tough and play D?  Have not seen them off the bench in weeks.

  1. Thought the Terps played a good game against Wake. A great play at the end of regulation should have won the game.

I'd love to see Maryland get another big recruit. But with Grevis and Hayes leaving this year, will the Terps need some help with their positions. It's not clear to me, who is going to fill their shoes. ACC is a tough division, you have to have someone capable of getting the ball up court.
