Looking Back on Duke

It is coming up on a week since the Duke game. The glass looked half-empty as the Terps could not pull off the victory. A win over hapless Wake and another probable victory over Longwood this week leaves the Terps with 7 regular season ACC games left and at least one ACC Tournament game.

Here are two videos from the game.  The first is some good pep band music.

The second is the warmups through the National Anthem.

With a record of 16-8, 5-4 in the ACC, the Turtles likely need a 5-2 conference finish to get to the NCAA Tournament. Big games loom at Virginia Tech and at North Carolina. Even at 10-6 (and certainly at 9-7) an ACC Tournament win would be between good and/or necessary for the Terps to avoid the NIT.

One of the highlights of the year will be the NC State home game in two weeks on Sunday evening. That is the game that will feature the unveiling of Greivis Vasquez jersey from the rafters at Comcast Center. Under the current setup, you get your jersey hung from the roof if you are an All-American. For those that do not recall, GV was ACC player of the year, Bob Cousy award winner (top point guard) and an All-American.

It has been a busy two plus weeks for me. I have been a little Terped out. On the football side, I am very disappointed to see defensive coordinator Don Brown leave. He is headed to UConn as a lateral move to be closer to his family.

The recruiting class for football is not as strong as in prior years. We can chalk that up to a new staff coming to town. I am hopeful that Randy Edsall can get the local recruiting going and bring in the best football player / students from around the DC area. Even with Ralph, we never got a lockdown on local talent.

I am hearing that there will be flashy new football uniforms for 2011. A new “gold-out” look and updated black uni’s are in the mix. I love the uniform talk, but Oregon would just be a joke if their multitude of uni’s were not followed up by winning.

Don’t forget, all the recruiting, tickets sales, etc get better when you win.
