Mike London on Board with Terps

Maryland basketball beats UConn at MSG.  Played great the first half.  Had Dookie V PTP’ing Melo.

So I am writing a column about football.  What has happened over the past few days is miraculous.

Former UVA head coach Mike London has joined the DJ Durkin staff late last night.  Coach London will be the Associate Head Coach and handle the defensive line responsibilities.

Add the London signing to the addition of former Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer as the defensive coordinator also on Tuesday.

But that is not all, a few days ago Aazaar Abul-Rahim left the University of Alabama to become the Terps defensive backs coach.

All three are big-time recruiters who already know the DMV market.  Mike London adds the Virginia Tidewater area to the DMV mix.  Aazaar was the head coach at Friendship Collegiate in DC, a program that turned out many Power5 prospects.

While offensive side of the staff is yet to come together, the defensive side looks fantastic.

On the recruiting side, almost all of the class has verbally recommitted to the Terps.  The main fence sitter right now is Dwayne Haskins, the heralded quarterback from Bullis (Potomac, MD).  I would imagine that re-commit once Maryland announces the offensive side of the coaching staff.

One more note, Mike Locksley is fulfilling his contract responsibilities with Maryland.  Keith Cavanaugh, among others, has reported that he is not going to remain on the staff past the current contract (12/31/2015).

With Durkin, London, Shafer and Abul-Rahim on board, this is the best recruiting staff that I have seen at Maryland.  Right now, the sky is the limit.
