Terrapin Monday – Terps get Rolled by the ‘Noles

I am pretty certain that is the last trip Maryland is going to make to the Leon County Convention Center / Donald L Tucker Arena in a long time, if ever.  That long-named arena is Florida State’s home court and the building, despite its name,  is located on campus.

The Terps won’t miss the trip.  Especially after the horrible performance of last evening, an 85-61 loss.  It was not that close.  FSU made 3-pointers at a record pace.  Maryland had no defensive answer and never made a run to close the gap.

Maryland scored 14 2-point baskets and three 3-point baskets.  Seventeen baskets in a 40 minute game.  The rest came on free-throws.  Florida State was 16-24 from beyond the arc and shot 50% for the game overall.

This is not about stats, this is about passion.  It’s not about walking up and down the sideline shaking one’s head about what is happening on the court, it is about having your team ready to play.

I do not doubt that there is talent on the team.  I do doubt the ability of the team to play well together.  I wonder whose job it is to make sure the team does play with passion and desire?

The Terps have two loses in a row of 20 or more points.  Coming to town on Wednesday at 7p is Notre Dame.  This should be a big draw, a sell-out Comcast rockin’ crowd.  We will see if anyone shows up.  I have gotten emails and read blog posts that the only way to get the fans displeasure across to the administration is to vote with one’s feet.

My feeling is that the fan base is at an almost boiling point with the coach.  Although many were unhappy with Edsall, football is not as important as basketball in College Park.  When the basketball team is bad, heads have to roll.  Change must occur.

At 10 wins and 7 losses, with the type of play that has been exhibited, the team is thought of as bad.  Hell, even I think the team has been bad and lifeless.

My take on the situations is that with a long-term contract in place with Turgeon and a top recruiting class coming in, there is no way Turge is going anywhere.  It would take another year or two of being disappointing to get Kevin Anderson to change coaches.

I will be there on Wednesday, will you?

  1. the problem with firing turgeon is that the a.d. would pick the new coach. do you want the a.d. who selected edsall and turgeon to pick the new coach if turge goes.
