Two of more interesting stories out of College Park over the last few weeks have been (1) DeShawn Painter (F/C) choosing NC State over the Terps and (2) that Gary Williams has a twitter account.
The Terps already have Stoglin and Ross for the 2010 back court duo. A few more big guys would sure help the Terps get back in the top 25.
DeShawn Painter (forward / center, Hargrave Military) decided that he was recruited over by the Florida Gators and went looking for a new home. At this writing, he is the 127th ranked player in the 2009 class. In the end, the choice came down to State and Maryland.
DeShawn went with the Wolfpack. As usual, claims were his handlers directed him to State. In this case, the handler appears to be his Hargrave coach. Whatever the reasoning, this was a short recruitment period and the Terps lost out again.
So losing a recruit, this time to beleagured Coach Lowe of NC State, is not really news.
What is news is that Gary Williams has twitter account. For those that tweet, you folks know that twitter is the new platform, similar to a newsgroup email message, that is a must have. The 140 character messages are the “in thing”.
Twitter is a noun. It is the actual product. The verb is “tweet”. That is the act of writing the message and posting it. In conversation, one could say, “I was on twitter last night. Did you read my tweet?”
Now it may not really be Gary typing the messages. It is an official University of Maryland twitter account. It does read as though Gary is actually doing the work here.
If so, welcome to the 21st century Gary. Now lets go get a few more big guys and make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.
