The Ball Bounces the right way for the Redskins

Since the Terps don’t play again until Friday night against Stony Brook, I will stick with the Redskins for this week’s first column.

I have been a Redskin fan longer than I have been a Terp.  I started out as a Redskin back in 1974 or so.  That was a few years before Albert King showed up and I became a Terp.

Through the 1980’s and into the 90’s, the Redskins played their way into a lot of games in which the ball bounced our way.  I know it was not luck, it was that the team knew where to be, was well coached and had fairly good players.

Since RGIII showed up, the Redskins have had the ball bounce their way.  From the fumble that turned into a pitch to Joshua Morgan in the Giants game and a touchdown to the fumbled kickoff last week that was not recovered in-bounds by the Ravens.

The ball bounced the Redskins way again on Sunday.  When the Browns scored to make the game closer late on Sunday, there was the chance to really get the Browns back in the game.  Kirk Cousins dropped back to pass around his own 30 yard line and got strip sacked.  The ball flew out and the referee threw the bean bag.

From the TV angle on the initial play, it was hard to see.  From the alternate angle, the ball clearly came out and bounced right back to Cousins.  Clean play, move on, nothing to see here.

This is probably over-reaction, but it seems to me that every time this situation occurred for the past few years, that ball bounces to the defense who returns it for a touchdown.  The game is now down to 3 points and the Redskins find a way to lose the game.

This year is special, every game turning play seems to go our way.  Love it while it happens.  It might be luck.  I hope that it means that we have a team of players that are in the right position and are well coached.

I still don’t like Shanahan, but he is getting the job done.  It is not just RGIII anymore, it is the entire team.  Hail to the Redskins.
