Talk throughout the week has centered on whether Ralph should get the boot. That is, whether or not the Terps should fire head football coach Ralph Freidgen.
Ralph has taken a moribund football program to the middle ground over his 9 years back at Maryland. Early in his tenure, the Terps put together 3 great years. After that, it has been a slightly better than average record on the field.
Off the field, the program has been very successful. Ralph has spearheaded the effort to get the suites built, have the football house refurbished and build the relationship with UnderArmour.
To add more fuel to the fire, the coach in waiting is on the sideline. Actually in the press box with the offensive coordinator James Franklin. Coach Franklin is a proponent of the West Coast offense. The offense has not really been “on fire” for the Terps.
I will add that Franklin is one of the best salesmen I have met. I think that he is a fantastic recruiter. If given some time, he will build a great talent pipeline for the Terps.
