Terp Basketball
A few days ago, before the Terps got whipped at Duke I wrote that they were ‘gritty’. What exactly does that mean? Grit – A character trait that means to have courage, fearlessness, or guts.
On Tuesday night, the BC Eagles visit Comcast Center. Are the naysayers right when they say that the Terps have only beaten bad teams. Can we compete on a top-level? Do these Terps have ‘grit’? I thought that until Saturday they did. I still believe that the Turtles have that intangible toughness. I am looking forward to a win on Tuesday.
I would like to see Steve Goins (pronounced Go-ins) the 6′ 10″ center get more playing time. He looked very aggressive when he got onto the court near the end of Saturday’s game. I don’t know what happened to Eric Hayes. He looked lost on Saturday. He passed up too many open shots. You can’t having a shooting guard who won’t shoot.
More importantly, is this it for Gary Williams? Will the team have his back? I hope that Saturday’s game was a one time affair. I look for the crowd to be really charged up, I think that all of the fans know that this is a make or break game.

The Terps now have the 24th ranked recruiting class for this spring. National signing day is February 4th. I hope to be at the recruiting celebration in College Park that evening. There are so many positives for this class. With Caleb Porzel (rb from Good Counsel), Travis Hawkins (db from Quince Orchard – West Virigina and Florida have not given up yet) and many others waiting to sign their official letter of intent (loi), it is a great class.
Before too much is typed, we will wait for The Day. Even if everyone does not sign up, what a great job by James Franklin (offensive coordinator) and Dave Sollazzo (defensive line and recruiting coordinator) have done. There will be a lot more about this class on the blog in the next we as we look forward to making it all official*.
* – other 4 star recruits are LB – Dave Mackall, DE – DeOnte Arnett, RB – DJ Adams
