20 years ago today, Maryland was the last place team in the ACC tournament. The first place team was NC State. Maryland, in the last game Bob Wade won as the coach, stunned NC State.

That is the only time in ACC tournament history the last placed team upset the top seed.

Later today (7p Eastern) on ESPN the Terps play the Pack in the ACC tourney. The Terps, unless they get white hot, are headed to the NIT. I am not sure that the Pack is going to any postseason tournament.

Maryland is a tough team to guage. There is no doubt that they play as hard or harder than anyone. If Greivis Vasqauez gets going, the Terps can beat anyone. Lately, he has been wearing down in the 2nd half of games.

The last time out against State, GV scored 30. He needs some help. Adrian Bowie, the sophomore pg has been close to missing in action. Cliff Tucker has the ability to be a star. If he can get 10 points, the Terps are powerful. If not, if it is all on Greivis, Eric Hayes and Landon Milborne, it will be tough to get even one win.

Overall, the Terps defense shows up every game. The offense only works when we make the layups and a few threes. The Terps have been missing a lot of layups in the last few games.

Assuming the Terps can handle the Wolfpack, we get Wake Forest on Friday. Jordan’s opinion is that the Terps should be an overdog on Thursday. I am not sure the Turtles are really going to be up to the task.
