Time to Turn Back to Football

It was hard to be a Terp fan for the past few days.  The Florida State hangover may be tough to get over on a national level.

You have to remember that the goal of the season was to get to a bowl game. The Terps stated goal is win the ACC Championship.  That has gotten tougher with the loss to FSU and it makes the Clemson game an imperative.

Maybe winning the ACC is not a reasonable goal for 2013.  Getting to 6 wins is a reasonable goal.  For the 6 wins, beating UVA and Wake Forest (next Saturday) will get you to 6.

College Football – it is a big game every weekend.  It is the only sport that comes to mind that you have to win every game to be the champ.  In Maryland’s case, the season starts to boil down to winning the games that they can win.

Now a word from our Sponsor – remember to catch TerpTalk in Baltimore on 1300AM at 6p today – we expect Travis Garrison to be our in studio guest. You can listen on radio.com as well.

This week it is UVA.  The other boarder rival.  The Terps took down WVU a few weeks ago.  The third boarder rival, Penn State is on the schedule next year.

Virginia is having a rough year.  2-3 (0-1 in ACC), the Wahoos lost to Ball State 48-27 at home.  Mike London is not expected to remain as coach if the season does not turn around this weekend.

Randy Edsall had some interesting words about the last game, “Its like any other week.  You have to forget about it and move on.  No different than if it was a win”.  There is truth in that.  Maybe the Terps did forget that College Football is a week to week sport.   Winning four games did not mean much if you could not win the fifth game.

The Tuesday press conference had a tight, tense feel to it.  It was basically 15 minutes of no comment or “we have a process for evaluating that”.    No definitive word on CJ Brown and Caleb Rowe.  No insight on whether the Terps were tipping off the run versus pass as Florida State has claimed.  You can tell the pressure is building.

The Terps season is starting again on Saturday at 3:30 in Byrd Stadium.  Win this game.  Then worry about the next one.  Win this game.

  1. To condense what Randy is saying…quote Leroy "Satchel" Paige
