Looking back to the WVU game, the defense was great. AJ Hendy, who really is the 5th cornerback or 3rd safety was the ESPN national defensive player of the week.
Hendy was out there as the 5th db, with corners Will Likely and Issac Goins along with safeties Anthony Nixon and Sean Davis, because of injuries to the starting cornerbacks.
The injuries are a well known story around College Park, as this season it is the cornerbacks. Jeremiah Johnson is out until November and Dexter McDougle is out for the season.
However it happened, AJ had a heck of a game. He had such a good game he overshadowed the fine play of Yannick Cudjoe Virgil. He of the number 51. Bruce Posner and I have a running joke that Virgil really is #51, not #91.
#91 is Keith Bowers, a well recognized Terp defensive lineman. Big things have been expected of Keith in his Terp career. #51 is YCV, a little known hybrid linebacker/rush end. He is having a breakout season, including an interception of WVU qb Ford Childress on Saturday.
In the fall pre-season game, YCV made so many plays that Bruce was sure that he must be #91. To add to that, the numbers on the jerseys are a little hard to read.
The next Terps game is a Florida State Oct 5th. The time of the game will be announced this Sunday.
As we widen the focus to a more national view, Virginia Tech has the ugliest helmets I have seen yet. They are a stone motif. I will grant you that they are interesting, but unsightly.
