Redskins Linebackers Stand Out

I really like this RGIII Adidas advertisement.  Check it out the link below.

My Redskins comment of the day is looking back on the season, the linebackers really have stepped up their play.

Wayne the analyst thinks: Even without superstar #98 Orakpo, the team of Perry Riley #56, London Fletcher #59, Ryan Kerrigan #91 and Rob Jackson #50 have done remarkable things.  Add in the whirling dervish of Lorenzo Alexander #97 and you have one heck of a a gang of linebackers.

Since the Redskins play a 3 down lineman and 4 linebacker set, you often see a linebacker lined up as a rush end.  As of late, the pressure on the opposing quarterback has come from the middle of the line, also know as the “A-gap”.

As the season has worn on, Fletcher has played at a pro-bowl level, Kerrigan has become a powerhouse and Rob Jackson has proved he is a real player, not just a stop-gap fill-in, with 4 interceptions.

This weekend with the Seattle Seahawks coming to FedEx Field, the linebackers are going to face the same type of split second decision making that the opposition has against RGIII.  Seattle’s Russell Wilson (late of NC State and Wisconsin) is a pint-sized RGIII imitator.  He has a great feel for the game and wicked speed to go along with his passing skills.

Our linebackers will have to defend the option and a running qb.  Lets hope that we will still be singing Hail to the Redskins around 7:30pm on Sunday.

Wayne “the fan” thinks that the linebackers are the key to the team.  Our linebackers have so much responsibility.  From team leadership with Fletcher and Alexander to run defense,to pass coverage and quarterback pressure, they have emerged as the best group on the team.

As far as groups, the offensive line has been great as well.  The wide receivers are really picking up the pace, love Pete Garcon and Santana Moss.  The star power of the qb’s (although there are just two RGIII and Kirk Cousins) and the all-pro running of Alfred Morris are not really groups, so I an not going to count them in the list of group jobs done well for this season.
