Temple of Doom

What a downer the Temple game was.  The Terps were out of it from the “get go”.  Temple 38 to 7 over the Terps.

When the players ran onto the field before the game started, I noticed that only one (#21 Trenton Hughes) ran to the student section.  What an odd way to start the day.  But that lack of enthusiasm was a constant for the entire game.

I go to the games with the same folks every week.  Uncle Fuzzy was certain that the game was lost by the coaches during the week.  I will say that JoAnne was mighty upset that the game was so out of our hands for the entire day.

There was no crying after this game.  It is one of the few out of the past 27 years of going to almost every home game that we left early.  Temple was really good.  They played hard basic fundamental football.  The Terps did not.

To me, it has looked like Danny O has been hurt since the WVU game.  He has no zip on the ball and has been a bit slow on the trigger.  Maybe it is the loss of two of the three starting receivers. He certainly does not look like the qb he was last year or in the Miami game.

Much in the same way one says, “well you can’t fire the team, so you have to fire the coach”, our little gang in 206 is down to, “you can’t fire the coach, all you can do is change the quarterback”.  Something needed to be done to jump start the team on Saturday.

We know that Danny is the quarterback, not looking for controversy here.

The defense has forgotten how to tackle.  This is not a big, powerful defense to begin with.  It was envisioned as quick and hard hitting.  This has not worked out yet.

Friedgen, James Franklin, John Donovan and Don Brown we well liked here at Maryland.  JF was the offensive coordinator is now the head coach at Vanderbilt.  John Donovan was an offensive coach who is now the oc at Vanderbilt.  Don Brown was the defensive coordinator and is now the dc for Connecticut.

It is hard to see the current Terps give such a lackluster effort when coaches that you liked who guided the team to 9 wins last year were let go.

Terps notes:

Matt Robinson (safety #40) is out for the year with a shoulder injury.  Maybe Kenny Tate goes back to safety.

The two missing wide receivers are back.  Ronnie Tyler (#4) and Quinten McCree (#13) are back for the Towson game.

Edsall has to step up and take the blame.  He did not have his team ready to go on Saturday.  If they are not listening to you, that is a failure of management.  It all starts at the top.

  1. This was a good assessment of the game. Let's wait until a few more games are played and then determine how the egg was laid?
